Digital White organises workshops @ The Future Gallery

DW is pleased to announce a series of morning workshops in June and July, covering social media planning, the social media scorecard, and how to pre-empt a social media crisis. We have a combination of agency and brand speakers with a very practical element to the format.

Alex Holt invokes social media debate…

Alex enjoyed giving a presentation entitled: “Extracting value from your social media engagement” at ISBA’s Compag forum this afternoon. The 30 FTSE 100 senior procurement managers subsequently engaged in a debate on the new trends: What social media platforms are fads and which will become the next Twitters? What are the reasons to use social media and to what extent are budgets growing to accommodate the huge growth of this channel? How can we stop people being numb to the communications? The debate will go on about the appropriate technologies, but ultimately, brands are still engaging with humans; humans who now expect a lot for free. Engage or die!

Operations director, Alex Holt, presents to Kingston University Media students

Alex delivered a presentation introducing Kingston University media and gaming students and lecturers to the life of a digital agency. This was also an opportunity to understand the online habits of 20-25 year olds and how brands can engage this audience.

The course director had indicated that many of the students already had useful skill sets from modules they are studying at Kingston University and Alex provided illustrations of how these skills may be utilised to actually fit into working projects in digital media companies. Alex also provided insights for the students on how DW works and also introduced them to some useful resources that they might be able to use. More interestingly, was the insight into students’ online habits. They were most forthcoming with their online preferences around music, sports and gaming. Indeed, some spent up to 70 hours a week on ‘World of WarCraft’, whilst others spent a more conservative 30 hours a week on Facebook and other online communities. If you’re a brand and want to know more about this tech-savvy, vocal demographic then give Alex a call.

DW attends Downing Street function for Barnardo’s

DW attends Downing Street function for Barnardo's

11 Downing Street was the venue for a high-profile charity reception for Barnardo’s on Tuesday evening. As one of the guests, Alex was exposed to the extensive work that Barnardo’s does helping children, young people and their families across the UK. With a rousing call from Karren Brady (ex MD of Birmingham City FC) and the input of a number of other leading business luminaries, the challenge was laid down to the guests: how can you get involved? Barnardo’s clearly has a lot of heavy-hitting patronage, but the real work is done on the ground, much by volunteers. So, for anyone considering a personal project for 2010, why not mentor a young person or provide an internship, and give someone an opportunity that they wouldn’t otherwise get? Find out more at Barnardo’s.
