Last Wednesday we hosted our workshop on effective social media planning. In attendance were representatives from ISBA, The Times, PepsiCo, Eurostar, Sainsbury’s, Disney, Sotheby’s, RSA, Starwood Hotels, Hays, and Kingston Uni. From the pre-event questionnaires we gauged the varying degrees of knowledge, implementation and success in social media.

The event was hosted by Alexander Holt whose analytical and planning knowledge in this field is drawn from the ever-growing demand from clients for advice and guidance on how to use social media. Alongside Alex, was the exuberant Heather Taylor, PayPal’s representative and champion in the social space, who spoke about PayPal’s experience to put the practical flesh on the theoretical bone of social media implementation.

After the extensive case studies’ insights, the mid-morning ‘break-out session’ enabled delegates to interact, discuss and solve their organisations’ challenges around social media in relation to sales, customer service and marketing. The audience were split into the three groups to discuss these questions:

1. What are you currently doing in this space?
2. What would you like to do?
3. What would be a good approach?
4. What can you learn from others?

With an audience that was enthusiastic and keen to get something from this workshop, there was a flurry of notes scribbled down on flip charts. Afterwards these findings were presented by one of the group members and discussed openly between the groups. It was very interesting to hear their thoughts!

A recurring theme that was fed back from the event was the need for a confidential forum for attendees to follow up and continue the discussions. Therefore we are implementing this as we speak, so if you, or your company, are unsure on what to do in the social media space, get in touch with us!

Alex enjoyed giving a presentation entitled: “Extracting value from your social media engagement” at ISBA’s Compag forum this afternoon. The 30 FTSE 100 senior procurement managers subsequently engaged in a debate on the new trends: What social media platforms are fads and which will become the next Twitters? What are the reasons to use social media and to what extent are budgets growing to accommodate the huge growth of this channel? How can we stop people being numb to the communications? The debate will go on about the appropriate technologies, but ultimately, brands are still engaging with humans; humans who now expect a lot for free. Engage or die!

Last week it was London Design Week and Digital Week, so we at DIGITAL White were very eager to get a piece of the action. With so much on, covering so many specialities, we were spoilt for choice on what to attend.
Here are some of the events that we attended and what we thought of them….

The Tent - Brick Lane
There were a number of awesome installations which kept me enthralled for the whole afternoon. And on a sunny Sunday afternoon Brick Lane was a smorgasbord of cultures seamlessly blending into each other. Great fun!

How was it for you? – The Imagination Gallery
A facilitated panel discussion from digital professionals about how we can work out what success looks like across a variety of digital platforms. Very insightful and very relevant for us!

Glug London - Queen of Hoxton
A social event amassing like-minded industry professionals set in the very cool Queen of Hoxton venue. With free drinks and food, the conversation was flowing in a very relaxed atmosphere. They also sneak previewed the new features of the next version of Flash.
